Getting more battery time for a Portable DVD player?

Howdy,

Guy I work with has a Polaroid DVD Player for the car:

He's been testing the player and the battery and it only lasts about 2 hours or so. He has a 4 hour flight and is looking for some way he can get more battery life from this thing through some sort of external battery or something.

Does anyone know of some external battery pack that you could charge up and then plug into the DVD Player (where the power cord goes in) when the main battery dies to basically have the player think it's running of the AC Power? Or maybe some sort of thing that could charge up and have a normal outlet plug on it?

Just brainstorming for ideas.

Thanks.

He ended up just getting second battery of the one that came with it. We found it online for $60. Ah well. Thanks for the info. I'll keep that first link in mind for later.

This was a real concern for me when looking for portable video players, because I frequently need 12+ hours of battery life. After considering portable DVD players and a Sony PSP, I ended up with the Creative Zen Vision W along with an external power pack that takes 4 AA batteries (thanks to acemcmac for suggesting the player... unfortunately he only got to enjoy his for a few days 🙁). If such a device does not exist for that DVD player, it wouldn't be too difficult to make one. All you'd need is a battery holder that holds 6-8 AA batteries in series (assuming 9-12v DC input) and a wire with the correct plug on the end. Make sure you get positive and negative on the right terminals and you're good to go. That + NiMh batteries is better than buying another proprietary battery IMO, because it's cheaper and you can carry multiple sets of batteries if desired.
