What info on the bottom of my checks do I need to provide? The person who's sending the money said they need my acct number, routing number, and the name of my bank (simple enough). What numbers mean what on the bottom of my checks?? Thanks :)

Routing number is the number at the bottom on the left, and the account number is to the right of it (among the long sequence of digits).

The routing number is at the bottom far left of your check, next to that is your account number and to the right is the check number.

However some banks have different routing numbers for checks and wire transfers.

Call your bank and ask them what their ABA routing number is, it's 9 digits, post it here or PM it to me and I'll verify if it's correct or not (I have access to every ABA/SWIFT/BIC/Telex number in the world).

Keep in mind your bank will probably ding you a service charge for having money wired to your checking account.

I hope you're not doing this regarding emails you got from nigeria where you get 50 million in the end.

No, it's for a car :) I just wanted to make sure that it was ok to give him these numbers too, it's the first time I've done a cash transfer this way.

The routing number is the first 9 digits on your check.

Personally, I'd be a little uncomfortable giving someone those numbers, even though they're on every personal check you write. If it were me, I'd ask for a certified check.

geno,

Again I would recommend calling your bank (which bank/city/state do you bank with?) and asking them these questions:

1) What is their ABA routing number? (which may or may not be the same as on your checks - DO NOT ASSUME, this could delay the purchase/sale of the vehicle if the wire is misrouted).
2) You will need to provide the remitter (sender) your name and account number as it appears on your bank's monthly statement.

You are giving a stranger your bank account, personally I'd rather ask for a cashier's check which are GUARANTEED FUNDS rather than a wire transfer but that's just because I work with wire transfers and know what can happen.
