Getting money and plans worked out for my Crunch Cluster

OverVolt

Lifer
Well, ive been toying with this idea for some time. The short version is: Im going to use Cluster knoppix and about 6-12(+5windows PCs) to Crunch F@H in my basement. They'll all be diskless and relatively cheap (plan on $100-150 per diskless PC, i already have the switch and server). Just depends how much extra cash i have.

Anyway im planning out what im going to buy, and i cant decide between getting lots of Applebred 1.8s or a few T-Breds 2.0s The A-Breds run me only $46 while the T-Bred will run $67. Which one would be the most cost effective?

EDIT: would the reduced cache cripple F@H, or would it be worth it to save the $21 per CPU (for 6 thats $120 something which i could then buy a 7th PC)

Why not spend $7 more and get Barton 2500+ that will run 3200+ with standard cooling? Then you can really cracnk out some WUs.

Even if it means you have to build only 5 crunchers instead of 6, you would most likely get the same if not more output and less power consumption 🙂

But i would need to upgrade the mobo at $~10 and then i would need a graphics card at ~$12-30 bucks and a better cooler and memory and so on.
