I am having a problem booting into my system. The black windows screen comes up when it's booting but then instead of the windows desktop showing up I get a black screen with an error message saying "lsass.exe - unable to locate component. Application failed to start because lsasrv.dll was not found"

I tried to do a recovery using the XP install CD, but I can't get past the password part. How should I go about fixing it? I remember reading here about an ultimate bootable recovery CD that has all of the important required utilities, but I can't seem to find it.

can you boot into safemode? If so, scan the drive for error by checking the "Automatically fix file system errors" option.

Thanks, I tried to do a repair install but it asks for a password in the recovery mode and I can't get past that part.

Did this ultimateBootCD help? I've got the same error when reebooting after I had set up a Netgear wireless router.
