Getting lots of timeouts

computer is wired into my router. noticing that im getting A LOT of page timeouts and just basic internet usage is very delayed at best. my other computer hooked up is doing fine however and i know the servers to these websites im trying to get on arent down

any solution or things i should try? because this is just getting frustrating. its a cable connection and i shouldnt have to wait 20 seconds to load this very forum to post this

This could be caused by several different things:

1) Bad network cable (or simply not properly connected to the PC or router)
2) Bad network drivers
3) Bad network adapter
4) Bad port on the router
5) other stuff I'm not thinking of at the moment.. 😉

To eliminate 1 and 4 at the same time, connect the problem computer to the cable that the working computer is using. If the issue goes away, then the problem is with the cable or the port on the router. To narrow down which of the two is causing the problem, take the working cable (while still connected to the computer with the problem) and plug it into the port on the router that the problem computer was using and see if the issue returns. If so, then it's a problem with the port itself. If the connection still works fine on both ports, then the cable that you were using on the problem PC is bad and should be replaced.

If you still have the same issue with both cables then the problem is with the network adapter/drivers in the problem PC and you'll want to download the newest drivers for your network adapter then completely uninstall and re-install the adapter to see if that resolves the problem. If not, then it's likely a problem with the network adapter itself or possibly the networking services/protocols within Windows.

thanks for the tips man. the cable is going across a room so i could try the 'working' one but that would require taking apart my entire setup. not a bad port because ive switched the ports around.

last night ordered one of those N1 Belkin routers + wireless network card, hopefully that eliminates the problem
