Getting lipoma bumps removed...

Started another thread about about fears of carpal tunnel syndrome, due to numbing in my fingers. However, specialist thinks it prob isn't cts, but it could be due to lots of lipoma (fatty deposits) up and down my forearm. They're harmless by themselves, but apparently in large numbers in a single area, they can start to compress nerves. Such was the case for my sister a few years ago.

Big sigh-i'm a pianist by profession so this is kind of a big deal. Anyone else have a relatable experience?

First I've heard of it. However, I don't think removing it will reduce your ability to play the piano.

Oh yeah, the idea is that NOT having them removed will eventually reduce my ability to play piano. 🙂 i know it's a very minor surgery; it's just a little nerve-racking as a pianist to have someone cut your arm open.

In the waiting room now. Wish me luck!

Good luck, sir! May the surgeons scalpal be ever true...

You'll be fine, and back to tickling the ivories in no time. At least it's not CTS!

Good luck, hope it fixes your problem. Understandably scary when it relates to your livelihood.

I'm out. Sore as fuck, but that's to be expected. Procedure itself was fine, more icky than painful. Beginning recup time !

I have these as well all over my body...not in a gross way 🙂

I had 7 removed a number of years ago, all in tender areas...one on my bicep one in between rib and a couple on my lower back.

Basic numbing and then they cut, snip them out and stitch you back up.

They look like chewed hubba bubba gum when they are out.

Good luck! I have lipomas all over my body, some are huge, like golf ball sized at least. Been gradually getting more of them since I noticed the first couple as a teenager. Hasn't seem to caused any problems for me yet (this was something like 14 years ago). The first doctor I saw about it recommended I get them removed because of concerns like you mentioned. But when I went to talk to a specialist he was aghast and considered the recommendation completely stupid.. he also told me it'd be an elective surgery not covered by insurance, so that was the end of that. I've brought it up to other doctors on a few occasions over the years but no one has ever shown any concern.

But hearing about the situation with your sister is a little alarming, so maybe you should go ahead with it..

The only other noteworthy thing I can add to this: when I lose weight the lipomas do shrink. They grow larger again if I gain back weight, and I think that's when new ones form too :/ So uh, maybe be better about maintaining a good weight than I've been..

The only reason I got mine removed was due to sensitivity in specific areas...between rib for one, in the bicep for another and the couple on my lower back.

Didn't matter as I have had them come back in almost the same spots!

Yeah, i think most other concert pianists would also get multiple opinions before having surgery on their arm. In fact, wouldn't most people in general? And I'm not on Obamacare. Nah, but you're funny.
No shit.🙄

I may not be funny but you're wound a little tight.

Seriously. I thought your post might've been a joke, but you might just have a perpetual stick up your ass.
