How can I get Red Hat 7.2 on the Net? I've got a home network setup (2 Win boxes) but for now I just want it to be able to reach the Internet. What settings should I change to get this to work?

Try netconfig That should be able to set the correct values for your nic (that you have installed right?) when you plugin the information.

What does "ifconfig -a" give you?

ifconfig eth0 address=(ip you want) netmask=255.255.255.0 up

type that in the command line, and then ping something. I had to do that to get my slackware 8 box connected.

Ok. Ill try this without knowing anything about redhat linux and without knowing the settings for your network or the settings on your system.

What did you try after you put all of the settings in? Did you try and ping the internal interface of your router? What about one of the Windows machines or whatever? If that worked did you try to ping the ip address of a site on the net? Did that work? Yes: Ping a domain name. No: get your dns settings correct.

The way I'm testing the results is to try and bring up a webpage. I'll just wait until Monday to ask the guys at work. Don't worry about it. Geez.

Did you try pinging the ip addresses I mentioned? If you need one on the net try 198.77.116.39

I went into the console and did "ping (the IP you gave)" and it got one connection. Then it kept going and going saying it was unreachable. But it did get there once.

Ok, and is it pinging the router's internal ip fine? (You are using a router right?) Can it ping www.yahoo.com?

It did the same thing for my router. When I tried "ping www.yahoo.com" it came back with "ping: unknown host www.yahoo.com".

Im not sure why most of the pings wouldnt be working... bad cable maybe? As far as the unknown host goes, as long as you typed it in right (I type it in wrong constantly), check to make sure you have the correct DNS servers in /etc/resolv.conf
