getting into shape

So I've decided that I want to get into better shape. I was thinking of going to the rec center at school, but I've never really worked out anywhere before. Is there anything I should know beforehand? Also, what kind of exercises would be best to lose some weight. I have recently changed my diet by no longer drinking pop or eating junk food, but I would like to do better. Thanks for any advice.

I wish someone would just say

"eat X for breakfast, Y for lunch, Z for dinner"

it would make my dieting SOOOOOO much easier

drink loooots of water. it really helps. as long as you do some sort of aerobic activity every day for 30-40 minutes you will loose weight, you can pick which one.

Cool, that's what I've been thinking. I have been drinking as much water as I can everyday. It's weird because I never liked drinking water before, but now I really enjoy it. As far as working out somewhere, I guess I have some kind of dumb questions. Like do I need to bring a towel or are they typically provided? Also do I need to bring a lock or something for a locker?

bring a little towel just so you aren't leaving sweat all over the equipment. unless they give you a key for the locker, get a combination padlock.
