Getting into Photography

I'm taking a photography class in school and recently bought a Nikon N80 and bought a Nikkor 28-80mm f3.3-f5.6 lens off Anubis here on Anandtech.

Can anyone recommend any online sites/books on learning more about shooting pictures and all that comes with it?

Can anyone recommend a cheap camera bag that'll hold my Nikon N80 sturdy and safe? Keyword: Small, nothing big and bulky.

As of now, I'm also thinking of getting the Nikkor 50mm f1.8 lens. Any others I should be looking for in the near future?

I'm still in a learning process. Any suggestions/comments would be appreciated.
 

A 50mm f/1.8 or maybe the better f/1.4 is about the best lens that you can own. It is sharp & fast enough for any shooting situation. A fixed focal length would force you to move in or out to frame your subject; in turn it makes you are a better photographer. The most natural focal length is 40~50mm, and it happen to be use for 80% of the shooting situation (I sometime prefer 35mm over 50mm).

As for book, any would do...and remember to record what you take (film speed, fstop, shutter speed, time of day, weather condition) for analyst latter on a light table.
 
OT: the 50mm 1.4 isnt "BETTER" then the 1.8 its just faster, the 1.8 is sharper at 1.8 then the 1.4 is at 1.4 & 1.8 and its also like 150$ cheaper

i recomend the ansel adams series (the camera, the negative, the print), great photo books that every photographer should have
also any of the random intro to photo books work, they all do a good job of explaining the general principals about film speed, depth of field, focal lenth.... you can get thoes at just about any bookstore


what kind of bad do you want? backpack style or over the shoulder?

Me bad, was thinking of the Canon & Pentax lenses.

Ps. You know that Ansel Adam purposely shoot & develop for low contrast on his master negative to retain the most detail, then use dodge/burn/chemical enhance his contact neg. (He would make an 11x14 or 16x20 neg from his master neg, then contact print them to get the final print).
