getting internet, but hiding it from someone

a guy I work with has a dilemma.. he doesnt have internet on his office pc because his partners and people who would work for him would sit there and surf pr0n all day. Personally, I dont know why he would hire such people, but thats his deal.

So, if he gets DSL..whats the best way to hide the fact that the internet is now available?

It must be done without creating a seperate WinXp user account... I was thinking, is there any way to allow permissions on enabling, or disabling the Nic card? If you could password protect it before it was allowed to be enabled that would work.

any other suggestions?

Group policy?

EDIT: Ahh, i thought that each user would have their own account. Am i right in thinking this is just a WinXp stand alone PC with just one user account, which everyone uses?

If so is it Home or Pro?

Can't be done without a seperate account or spending money on 3rd party software. Just create a second account, which is the way it should be done in the first place, then its a piece of cake with setting permissions.

msi1337, this is pretty much the only time where PPPoE would be considered a good thing. If your ADSL provider uses PPPoE and a PPPoE "dialer" program, you'll be prompted for the DSL provider username and password when you "connect" to the Internet. And so long as the one trustworthy person is the only one who knows that password, and he logs out / closes the dialer program when he's done, that would pretty well restrict access.

This wouldn't necessarily hide it, though. I'm not sure you can really hide that you have Internet access.

And I must second the thought that if you have business partners you can't trust with Internet access, you have very serious business-level problems.

add/remove the default gateway when he want to use the net would be the easiest.

that looks like the best option. They are all sharing the same PC right?

LOL, sound like the Kindergarden approach to a social problem.

You really think that No one would eventually see him surfing.

:sun:

Have each person sign a letter to confirm that the internet is for business use only. The individual will be terminated upon the 3rd infraction.

There should be a thread about STUPID BOSS!

I wont go into the ethics of it...but I agree..it is silly to have to do this...

thanks for the updates!
