Absolutely hate, the way it tries to update itself, nagging all the time. There must be a way of totally shutting down its update mechanism. Please share with us.
Disabling that option has no effect I am looking for. Skype would still nag about updates available upon starting up.Then click the Turn off automatic updates button.

Do yourself a favor and stop using the normal Skype installer, it contains a lot of junk like the Bing Toolbar, Skype Updater, Click to Call, etc......
Just grab the latest MSI installer from here:
http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-msi
You just double click that and it installs in a second....no crap, just pure Skype FTW
Then go to settings, Privacy, and uncheck enabled Microsoft Targeted ads
then go to Advanced and uncheck everything.
done
I like to decide myself, whether I need a certain update or not.I'm going to guess the answer is no then. With it turned on, it should install new versions on start up, right? Why do you not want the latest version?
127.0.0.1 download.skype.com
yeah but why do that when there is a clean and lean installer to start off with? You get the same thing by simply installing it and unchecking that stuff you know, right?
There was a business version of Skype if memory survives me right, with the reduced amount of bundled crap. Maybe it's just that.yeah but why do that when there is a clean and lean installer to start off with?

Fine, I'll just block it.
Skype still doesn't use windows update to patch when there is a new version right?
if you installed it initially through Windows updates, unfortunately it installs the bloated Skype with Click to Call, Bing Toolbar, MSN Homepage, etc........but it does update through Windows updates. I always hide that update and install the lean and clean MSI installer myselfSkype still doesn't use windows update to patch when there is a new version right?
