Getting horrible FPS in RavenShield with a 9800 Pro...

Before I get into the problem, here's my system spec's:

2.8GHz Intel Processor
512MB RAM
Windows XP
Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB

I currently have the 3.8 Catalyst drivers installed. I have all of the graphics options in RavenShield set to high and I think I'm running it at a 1024x768 resolution. My average FPS is probably somewhere around 30-35.

I don't see why I would be getting such horrible FPS. I was talking to a guy ingame who had a 9700 Pro and the 2.49 drivers installed.

My question is, how would I improve my FPS to where it should be (at least above 60)--without overclocking. I would guess that maybe a different set of drivers would help? Which ones would you suggest?

I've never measured the FPS with my FX5900... but I've never felt the need to cause it's always smooth as glass... it's a fairly slow paced game to begin with... so I would think even as low as 30 fps might be playable.

Oh it's definitely playable--but the slower FPS is still noticable. Especially in big firefights with smoke and frags and bullets flying everywhere (I can get as low as 15 FPS sometimes). I just read the thread that someone posted about the new Catalyst 4.1 drivers and installed those. So I'm going to go try it out now.

Thanks Jeff, Atlan.

Alright, well I installed the new Catalyst 4.1 drivers. The FPS seemed a little bit more stable, but it still got around an average of ~35.

Any suggestions?

Ask this or search in the driver forum at rage3d.com. You should get info from a whole slew of folks with a similar setup running RavenShield. I haven' played the game so I can't tell you much, but 35 fps at 1024x768 seems low, even with AA & AF.

Actually, I thought I had been playing at 1024x768--but I was really using a 800x600 resolution. When I tried 1024x768 it was a lot worse! 🙁

I made a post at the Rage3D forums, thanks Gonad.
