getting fvcked by PCMall

ok check this out...i buy the Toshiba 1005-S157 laptop from PCMall because their website says it includes a "10/100 NIC and lithion battery." It also says WinXP Pro and a composite out port, but that's beside the point.

So anyway, i call my sales rep up (i buy from them fairly often) and ask him to verify that there is a network card and lithion battery included. He double and triple-checks and gives the approval. I asked him to check because toshiba's site doesnt mention anything about those parts.

But then things start smelling fishy when during shipment of my laptop, the website "mysteriously" changes without notice and the stuff about the nic and battery are gone. As predicted, it arrives without those components. It arrives LATE, as well, i might add. I call the sales rep and his manager up and now they refuse to cooperate, saying that i have no proof that they promised those parts. Now they won't take back the laptop, ("all sales are final") and they are saying that "they dont know anything about the website changes." You'd think that the sales rep would have been honest enough to admit that he checked those specs for me and gave me the wrong info. A friend said the transactions violated "my implied warranty of fitnesss."

So i revoked the charges on my credit card and hopefully they work things out.

Completely unscrupulous if you ask me. Needless to say, PCMall is no longer on my vendor list. If i had to rate their customer service, it'd be in the negative zone. And I overpaid for that damn laptop to boot.

hope u get ur money back... or they honor those parts.

it's good to print out all the related ads.... or ask them to fax u a copy of quote... b4 paying.

good luck on getting your money back.

This reminds us to print out all the ralated webpages, every single one from product descriptions to check out page.

yeah, I always do this in case of mysterious spec changes or sudden price changes. If you're working from memory you really have no proof, and the sales/customer service people don't know anything except what their database lookup tells them.

I dropped PCMall probably 10 years ago...they shipped me some sensitive media in a Fedex box with no padding whatsoever (not even a peanut or a piece of newspaper). I also placed an order from Ecost 2 years ago, and had an even worse experience. You should be aware that PCMall, MacMall, Ecost and I believe eLinux are all under the same company umbrella, along with one other site whose name escapes me. Add them all to your "$h!t list" :Q
