Getting from Philly to New York?

sirpado

Senior member
I don't know the area that well, but Im flying into Philly tomorrow then I need to get to NYC. I've read online about Chinatown buses that are 20 bucks round trip but I wanted to learn about other options that are convenient from the airport. Like trains.

Anyone from the area have any suggestions? I just want something simple and relatively inexpensive.

There are three public transportation options:

1. Bus - the bus terminal is at 10th & Filbert (800) 343-9999

This is your cheapest option, but there is a certain "class" of people that take the bus.

2. SEPTA - You take a local train to Trenton and switch to NJ Transit click me

3. Amtrak - The fastest, most direct and most expensive. click to check schedule

Method number 2 is not a bad way to go. After the SEPTA, you switch to the NJ Transit Northeast Corridor line which takes you right into Penn Station. Much cheaper than Amtrak and almost as easy.

I've taken the bus, what's wrong with the bus? Amtrak will rape you, enjoy paying way too much.

Back in my younger days, I never minded taking the bus. It's cheap and you don't have to make any connections along the way. If you can nap in a vehicle and don't make rolling the dice on your seatmate (you have an approximately 1 in 20 chance of smelly drunk talkative guy), it is a good way to go.

#2 is the best option. almost as easy as Amtrak for almost half the price

you can walk it. That's what Dennis Quaid did in Day After Tomorrow, even in sub-zero temperatures. Entirely possible... Just Do It.

id suggest number 2.
bus is cheaper but runs less and could potentially be more of a pain as far as traffic is concerned.
i mean, the bus really isnt a bad option for that short a trip. but depending on when you are leaving, getting into nj and then nyc can be a gigantic pain in the ass.
sat. afternoon shouldnt be too bad, though.

get dropped off at atlantic city (pretty close to philly?)
hit the hold em tables for a little bit
get some drinks
take port authority bus straight into 42nd street
