Getting fired and then rehired with raise

My boss took me aside. He wants to fire me. Then he wants to re-hire me back with a raise. He wants to do this because Obama (Our President) signed into law Pub. L. No. 111-92 the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment Act (HIRE). If my boss rehires me as an unemployed person he gets:

1) Exemption from paying the new hire's social security taxes (6.2% of pay) from March 19, 2010 to Dec. 31, 2010.
2) Retention Bonus - Tax credit equal to the lesser of $1000 or 6.2% of wages paid to the newly hired employee if employee is retained for at least 52 consecutive weeks. In order to claim the maximum credit of $1000, the employer must have paid the employee $16,129 over the 52 weeks.

I have to head over to the unemployment office so that I can be classified as unemployed.

Thank you Obama, I thought 'Cash for Clunkers' was the only was I was going to profit from voting for you. It does feel funny driving my new car to the unemployment office. LOL

I don't pretend to understand legislation very well, but:

In addition, the new law requires that the employer get a statement from each eligible new hire certifying that he or she was unemployed during the 60 days before beginning work or, alternatively, worked no more than 40 hours for anyone during the 60-day period. The IRS is currently developing a form employees can use to make the required statement.

It looks like you will have to be unemployed for a while for your employer to claim this benefit.

Oh. Great. I got laid off from a job I had for nearly 2 years, 2 years ago. Then they tried to rehire us LESS than what we initially started off at. Me & the crew were expecting a raise at that time too.

This event in no way reflects poorly on Obama. It DOES however show that the OP's boss is a fucking idiot AND a fucking scumbag.

that was my first thought. 2nd was damn im out of beer. 3rd was do i need to change my depends?

I thought you spent all your prostitute money on a 12 pack of Sam Adams...

Did you get a prostitute while your wife & kids are away?????????????????????????

^ only if this isn't really the boss' way of firing the OP without a fuss:

Just lay low in Bruges for a couple of months, then I'll re-hire you. With a raise! (Shame about that kid.)

No, it shows that the OP's boss is pretty fucking shrewd...he got him out the door without any fuss...

OP, you just got fucked...and don't realize it...yet.
