Looks like our telecom committee just recommended that our town should start their own Telecom service. Digital TV, Phone, and Internet are all part of the package. Link

The best thing is that we're getting fiber-to-the-home instead of to the node :D Probably won't make a difference now, but it's still pretty cool. I'm guessing they can still put caps on the speed of the download/upload though, so it'll probably just be like regular cable/dsl, right?

I'll finally have broadband sometime in the near future, possibly by September 2004 :D:D:D

Dialup sucks!!!!!!

My dad's had fiber for a while now. But...his Dr. said he had to.

:D

Sounds sweet, though...esp. if they don't cap it too low on you.

The business plan considered by Oss figures a 10-year payback. It also shows a negative net income for at least the next eight years.
City Administrator Dennis Nelson also cautioned the group that these figures are based on a 60% market penetration over the next five years for the telecommunications system.

Umm, look for high prices when they realize they are losing their shirts. Fiber to the home is still very expensive since optical components are still in the thousands of dollars for simple things like switches.

Yeah I hope that doesn't happen. I know there are a lot of people looking for a broadband option here in Windom so hopefully they will sign up right away.

We just lost quite a few buisnesses here actually because they didn't have any broadband option available to them. This will really help the community.

Hmmm, have you ever eaten a couple of bowls of frosted shreded wheat in a single sitting? About 6-10 hours later, you will feel an urgent need

Fiber in the home is going to be awesome but the last company I worked for was trying to make cheap optical components for things like the metro market, one step above the residential. We were looking at pricing of initially around $500 per switch but dropping rapidly to less than $100. There are a bunch of other components that are needed but the switch would of led to the other cheap components. Well, the market crashed and so did the optical component market.

I started taking fiber suppliments about 4 days ago, coincidentally. I haven't have a movement since then.

I fear for my well being.

If anything, you can go to the special doctor with the lubricated gloves.
