Getting feedback from my headphones

Looking for a little help with this. If I plug my earbuds into my cheap computer speakers at work (headphone jack) I get a lot of feedback. However, I don't get any when I plug the headphones directly into the speaker port on the back of my PC. The cord is very short so I really can't leave it plugged into the back of the PC.

Any ideas why this is happening??

Hi, Do you mean Audio Feedback (Squeal)? If that's it some sound cards allow you to set up a "Public Address System" by turning the Mic and the Output on at the same time. That will usually get Feedback unless they are well isolated from each other. Try turning the mic off if there is one plugged in. Luck, Jim

It's more like a loud humming. Even if I turn the volume all the way down on the speakers themselves I get the humming from the headphones... I'll check my Mic settings. Thanks.

Any other ideas??

Can you move the speakers to another computer to test them? The humming could be from a fan or the hard drive in the pc. If it does the same thing on another computer though I'd say the speakers are crap.
