getting electrical service upgraded today

Good for you...I need to do the same thing at my place but the fundage is low at this point....lucky you Yamaha :beer:

Home brews are great. What have you made? Of course, one of my best friends works for Sprecher brewery, so the good brews are never inshort supply. 🙂

We have a gas furnace, h2o heater, and stove. 60 amps is marginal. 125 would be plenty but it wasn't much more to go to 200 amp.

there is a good chance wi will convert o a gas dryer when we buy new appliances, but then that 220 circuit will get out to the garage and work shop. so i will still want those 40 amps, albeit divided up.

For workshop, three phase power is God.

All, but a few sweet commercial shop machines requires a three phase power.
 
Good choice. Always better to go with a bigger size service than you actually need.........since the cost difference is so minimal at this point.

And is there any truth that an increase in service will increase the monthly bill?

I doubt if that's true or not. You are essentially just charged for the amount of power that you consume. I'm not aware of an electrical company charging a minimum charge based on the amperage of your electrical system.

I got a couple of bids... one company came in at 1000 and another around 1900. I went with the cheaper company.

I doubt there will be any increase in my bill. Consumption is the same now as before.
 
What are the benefits to upgrading ? "Upgraded to 220amps" was an upside when we bought this house from the previous owners, but honestly I think the old setting would've been fine. We're paying $65/mo. right now.
