I picked up the Creative X-FI HD USB external sound card a few weeks ago (on sale for $50 after MIR!), and I've noticed something odd about it. Whenever I load up a song to play, there's this weird, high-pitched, digital sounding "noise" or "distortion" (maybe artifacts is a better word?) that seems to play along and move with the music. It's more prevalent in the beginning of songs, though it may still fully be there throughout while I stop noticing it.
Now, I don't actually believe this is an issue with the device itself. I have yet to test it on other computers, but I wouldn't be surprised if this noise it's picking up is from something else on my computer (motherboard? It was a cheap mobo). In the event it's not the device, which it might actually be in the end, do you think buying a PCI card with USB ports on it would eliminate this problem?
