getting data off laptop HD

Just trying to pull data off of a laptop HD. ordered an external kit for the HD. Got everything plugged in. Shows up in windows. I go to c:\documents and settings(so I can get to my documents, etc.) and it says F:\Documents and Settings\Name here is not accessible. Access is denied.

Any way I can get around that?

I know it has something to do with "taking ownership" of the folders you want to access, I don't know the exact process...but I have seen it a while ago.

I did this . . .
Own

Now all I have to do is right click on the file or folder and select "Take Ownership." That's pretty simple.

Just what I needed, thanks for the link. FF crashes very often on my laptop, I really needed to back up my hard drive.
