Getting data from a laptop hard drive that no longer boots

Whats the best way to get data out of a laptop without opening the computer up? I dont have an adapter so I can't take the HDD out and connect it to a desktop.

Is there an OS that I can boot from which will allow me to network and share the data on the HDD? I know Bart PE allows me to boot and network, but does it let u share the HDD contents for file transfer?

any bootable CD repair disc like Hiren's 7.3 bootcd might help fix HDD even tho not bootable,
also miniPE, Ultimate bootcd For Windows (UBCD)

Download a copy of Barts PE Boot disc. It will allow you to boot into a mini windows environment with usb and network access and you will be able to image the machine without removing hardware.

ERD Winternals has networking and generic NIC drivers
avast bartpe has servant salamander which works like explorer, and has networking

bootable knoppix (linux) if you are familiar with it

there are hundreds of programs out there with self booting live O/S
of corse, you will have to set first boot device to CDROM
