by crysis time u'll just have to buy a new system. most stuff will be ddr2 by then, and old x2's.. unless they drop the price on em i'm not sure its worth the bother.

2gb DDR400 RAM
ATI Radeon 9250 AGP Graphics card

I am an avid gamer, and realise that I will need to upgrade my computer quite soon in order to handle the latest games. The games in particular I want to run well when they are released are Crysis and Unreal Tournament 2007. I was wondering if there is anything I could upgrade on my current system in order to run these games well?

Thanks in advance

your memory is salvageable, excellent in fact.

my suggestion:
s939 4600+ (after the new 5400+/5600+/6000+ CPU's arrive in November)
nForce4 Ultra M/B
ATI X1900XT 256MB (or whatever the ATI 7950 equivalent card is) (again - after the G80 is launched)

Good luck, I have a 9700pro and the much older Far Cry does not run that well on it. Your 9250 is the poor mans goverment hand-out video card and is best used to run those fancy OpenGL screensavers that microsoft provides for free.

I just made this list up a week ago. After rebates the cost comes to $574 and you get:

nVIDIA 7600GT (12 pixel processors)
Intel Core 2 Duo (Dual Core)
1GB of RAM
New Case (can be omited and money save could be used for faster parts)
New Power Supply (you probably need a new 24pin)
Intel Motherboard
Western Digital 250GB retail box Hard Drive (with warrenty)

With out rebates: $604
After Rebates: $574
Shopping around using nextag, price grabber and froogle could shave another $25-100 off the cost of this system.

To run these games well you need major upgrades. But to just about be able to run these games at low/minimum settings comfortably you will need to upgrade the GPU and maybe the CPU as well.

Quoted...for...truth.
Its best to wait till those games actually come out.

End of argument, u need a total new rig for those games and u DONT need it now.... but when those games come out... otherwise u buy now items that may/will be totally outdated and not worth the money u spend at this time...

Currently on my 9250 I can run Far Cry and BF2 reasonably well with a high enough framerate

Wow, this is a lot of info guys. Thanks so much for this, it'll help a great deal. I'll probably wait until Crysis and UT2K7 both come out before I finalize anything, but at the minute I'm leaning towards building a brand new E6300 rig, simply for the options in terms of upgrading i'll have

I agree that C2D is the new thing, but all this C2D craze is getting out of hand. Its known that C2D is faster, but to say the X2's are slow is an exagerated statement.

For those games you might just need a faster video card to run at 1024x768 with medium settings I'd wait. You might just need x850pro agp or so?
