Hey guys

I recently built a new comptuer and got the aiw radeon card. When I play counter-strike, I only get about 15 to 20 fps and even down to 5 in heavy action.

There was a recent post in the general forum where an other guy was getting crappy fps for his radeon. I followed the instructions there and it still doesnt work.

I did:
installed dx8
installed the original drivers
installed the multimedia stuff that came with the card
updated to the 7075 drivers

I also uninstalled and reinstalled counter-strike.

I have also downloaded Powerstrip and got a dianogstic report:

I went into my bios and disabled fast write. I also looked at the AGP transfer and my bios says its set at 2x.

Another problem: whenever I play cs, the menu screen is super tiny, probably takes up about 10 percent of my screen. And when I try to run OpenGL at 1280 x 1024, the game is going on and the Windows menu bar sometimes shows at the bottom. Or sometimes the picture is in the middle of the screen and is super magnified, probably about 800x600 and I can only see a little square.

I am able to play on Software, but would like to actually use my AIW.

This is absolutely driving me crazy. I've tried all these things and it still doesn't work. Can anybody help?

Thanks

Have you installed your ,via 4in1's? The biggest variable in VIA chipset game performance is what AGP GART driver is being used. Go to rage3d and check out their installation guides for the rundown on installing your Radeon properly. Don't forget to check their forums.

Hey thanks a lot rbv5

Right after I posted, I went to rage3d. I followed their FAQ's and uninstalled everything. I am now using the 7xxx wutever beta drivers. I also changed the display by setting the value to 1280 x 980 in the registry. Now I'm getting ~75 fps and running in OpenGL.!!! It looks soooooooo much better!!!

Actually, I have installed my 4-in-1 4.32's. I thought you were supposed to install all of them expect for the AGP minport drivers (I have 1.33 w/epox). Should I be installing some other AGP drivers?

Thanks again for helping

what does the following say now.

AGP non-local memory - (n/a)
Current AGP transfer rate - (n/a)
Fast write protocol - (n/a)
AGP texturing - (n/a)

I think RBv5 is right, you don't seem to have the AGP Gart installed. I'm not home right now I can't verify this but it looks that way.

>OpenGL at 1280 x 1024

I think the HL engine is capped at a lower rez than that.

BTW I play nearly everyday and I capped mine at 72fps and I rarely see it drop below that even in heavy action. Good luck.

Hmm.. I'll go looking for the AGP Gart then. Should I get it from the VIA 4-in-1's or from AMD?

Yea, I wasn't paying attention when I wrote 1280 x 1024. I actually have it at 1280 x 960.

I'm getting aroun 75 fps and sometimes it dips to around 40 to 50. It's ok, I'll just do some more tweaks.

Thanks for the help NicColt!

Ahh finally. I installed the AGP miniport drivers and now it says

Current AGP Transfer rate: 4x

So I'm guess I'm done with everything. Thanks for all the help guys!
