the comcast csr on the phone asked if i want the installer to install it on my other tv. i said "sure", then she said there'll be a $13 charge to each tv. i told her that i'll do that myself then but she said i can't because they'll have to turn on a signal on their side.

i've had sat. dishes before but not cable, can't i just split the signal with rf splitters myself? what signal would they have to turn on? or should i just pay the $26 and have the guy install it to the two other tvs?

You can split the analog signal wherever you want. You wont have digital channels without their box.

You can split the signal, but the TVs that dont have the digital box will only give you ananlog cable channels. Also, the more you split the signal, the higher the degradation it seems. Use high quality splitters. We have like 5 TVs at home, 4 on analog and 1 with Digital.

where can i purchase high quality splitter? are the ones from radioshack sufficient?
will it cost more for me to buy the splitters and cables than it is for comcast to do it for $13 a tv?
can you split the digital too?
how does the digital box connect to the tv? coaxial or RCA?

The digital and analog are on the same wire, but you need a digital box to receive those signals. So you can hook it up yourself to any TV, but without the box you'll just get the analog channels.

I believe in addition to installing each receiver, they also charge you $5 extra per month for each extra digital box that you have. So really, in my opinion, it isn't worth it. Just use digital on your main TV, and be happy with analog on the others.

As for splitters, generally make sure the frequency range goes up to 1Ghz.

but how does the digital box connect to the tv? thru rca or coaxial? can't i split that also? i was planning on splitting the signal before it gets to the digital box, then split the output of the digital box again. i assume with the digital box, you'll have to be on ch. 3-4 like a sat. dish receiver. that way, all the tv will receive the analog signal from the first split, and will watch on ch. 3 or 4 whatever the digital box is tuned into. will that work?
