My townhhome complex was so big they had their own cable system. Well, comcast came in and gutted everything and came in each home and installed 2 new jacks, and sent everyone a letter a few days later saying they would be switching the service over to the comcast service, for digital cable and internet service *fiber lines*. Now here comes the weird part. We call the very next day and say we would like to signup for the internet service, she asked for our address etc. She says great we can come tomorrow and install that for you..... Now I thought that was kind of odd, I mean the very next day? One problem... we tried plugging in our coaxial cable from the new jacks into the tv and it STILL has no picture, static *like poltergeist*. So I call back and say if you are coming tomorrow to install cable modem and obviously you will be using the new jacks, how will it work if the jacks don't seem to be turned on. She put me on hold for 10 minutes, came back and said she spoke with the internet specialist and the lady doing the townhome conversions and they said we should be ready to go for tomorrow............ Is it just me or this not going to work? Does the tv not working, mean the internet cable modem won't either??? And if they do come and say WOOPS, sorry can't do it now, can I ask them to leave the stuff for me since I can do it anyway, or should I act all pissed and demand they fix it now?

They will test it before they leave so I wouldn't worry. If it doesn't work they will fix it for you.

They'll come to your place, and test the connection back to their company. No need to worry. They'll do all their crap to get a connection to the cable service.

Do you have cable TV with them? If not, then they're probably disconnected anyway at some main junction in the building.

Maybe they wired the new service all in one shot, and are only putting the new connections "on-line" on an as needed basis. Dont worry about it, I bet it will all work fine before they leave.

The 2 new jacks might be for 1) Cable Internet access, 2) Digital cable

With Digital cable you wouldn't get any TV signal on the new jacks unless you have a Digital Cable box. If thats what Comcast decided to do, and kept the old analog service on the old lines then thats the answer to your problem! (which sortof makes sense, especially if they have the new lines as all fiber optic, that way they keep the signal on the fiber all digital).

Ooh, good answer. I hadn't even thought of that, but it's probably right, since they usually offer phone and digital cable when they upgrade to handle internet data.
