Getting around printer drivers install, not enough memory?

I have a computer that physically has 512 ram, but shows 503 cause I guess some is used for onboard video. Now when installing printer drivers it says, I have to have 512 to install.

So is there a way to get the full 512 to be able to install the drivers or another work around?

Yes. Install a dedicated video card, and make sure the IGP is disabled in the BIOS.

Whoops, almost forgot...another workaround is to install more RAM. This will negate the need for a dedicated video card.

I'm surprised a driver installer wouldn't allow that small memory discrepancy. It's a common issue with built-in video displays. Cheapest and best solution is to add another 512 MB of memory. XP and above will all work better with 1 GB-plus of memory.

I guess you could try to steal or borrow an old PCI video card for $10 or less, too.

I am running a scanning computer on 512 megs of RAM. It keeps running somehow.

Yes if it was my computer I would use more RAM. Some of these printers could print with just a driver setup, but the software they install is bloated and completely overkill. Often this is a problem when a device can scan, Print, Fax, photocopy, etc.
