getting around a proxy

I've got a friend at summer residence at a University that is providing him with an internet connection through proxy only. Unfortunately what this means for him is that almost everything fun with the internet (think: games) is "blocked," or I guess just non-functional. Is there any way around this that anyone can think of save buying a dial-up connection? I don't know much about proxy connections myself but it seems like something should be possible.

Have him ask the IT administrator if he can have unfettered internet; if he can't, have him purchase his own. Aside from that, I believe that asking for info on how to bypass security measures is a no-no here on ATNetworking.

The wonderful thing about not using someone elses network is that you can generally determine what you can or can't do. Their network, their rules. Your definitely in the wrong forum to be asking a question like that. Nobody is going to help you here.

Buy the local IT a 12 pack and some steaks...then ask about restrictions. Can't call that "circimenting the system" then 😀

You have to get the right kind of beer though. Screw that up and the admin might just find one of the school's old 300baud teletypes. :Q

it could also backfire if the IT guy is like me...case of Dr. Pepper or Mt. Dew here!! Mt. Dew is a pretty safe bet for IT geeks
