Getting annoyed with brightness settings

Well, i've about had enough with brightness settings. I've tried the Catalyst drivers from 6.3 to the beta 6.12's, and I have also tried a couple of the Omega drivers (don't remember what versions). Yes, I ran driver cleaner each time and did all of that stuff. For some reason, whenever I play a game, my brightness settings get reset. I've tried brightening the desktop and the full screen 3d brightness settings, but games ALWAYS reset my brightness and I can hardly see in dungeons while playing Oblivion. I'm running an X600 HyperMemory, if that helps at all. Anyone have any solutions?

Games overwrite the gamma ramp when they start. The games should have brightness controls, no?

Yes, but it's still dark whenever I turn the brightness all the way up. :s

raise your monitors contrast?

Yeah, raise your monitor's brightness settings and then just use lower gamma for your desktop?

Everything's already all the way up on my monitor. The gamma doesn't get too high, either. Whenever I begin playing a game, no matter how high the Full Screen 3D's brightness settings are in Catalyst, it stays at the default. Also, it sets the brightness to the default on my desktop as well.

try using ati tools to override the gamma. Never done this myself, but I've seen the option.
