Getting an MX510 soon...

It is USB, but also comes with a USB to PS/2 adapter. Which should I use, and why? For example, is USB faster when dealing with mice or something? Thanks

For 510 there is really no difference because XP limits USB frequency to 200Hz. PS/2 sample rate is also 200. USB is faster but the bottleneck here is the system, not the interface.

Personally I use PS/2 because USB might lag under heavy CPU usage.

usb is hot swappable, meaning you can plug it in and out while the pc is still on. ps2 wise, the keyboard/mice can cause a little jolt causing some damage. it rarely occurs, but it's still there. why not get the mx518 for a for dollars more?

Same here. I once unplugged (or plugged in, I forget) a PS/2 mouse while my computer was running, years and years back...the thing shut off immediately. Never happened again, but it was strange.

These days it's just easier - I'd have to use a USB->PS/2 adapter, plus one USB connection is a little easier than two PS/2 connections. (Only applies if you use a wireless keyboard/mouse set with one base, of course)
