I am going back for the second time in 3 years to have a tube put in my ear.
About 3 years ago I had one put in each ear. Chronic ear infections and fluid was the reason.
One of the ears is 100 percent better. The other is still a problem so we are doing it again.
Last time I was under general anaesthesia because I also had my adenoids out.
This time I will be awake.
Is it going to hurt? Will I get some topical anesthesia?

Yes, worst pain in the world.
They can't do anesthesia because they need you to talk to them about the placement as they are doing it so you have to be able to feel it.

Had this done when I was a kid, from what I recall it wasn't very much fun.

Well, the doctors office called and had to cancel. Rescheduled for next month.
btw what is a reasonable fee to charge the doctor for cancelling without 24 hours notice?

Half the cost of the procedure should work. If they deny...SUE SUE SUE!

GL on the tube though, I had one in my left ear a few years ago.

Same, though I do not really remember much about it.

Good luck OP!

you telling the doctor how hillary is going to win for five minutes should be fair, although that is probably equivalent to waterboarding

Ummm... I had what the OP described (for the same reasons) when I was a toddler, and I clearly remember them sedating me (I liked the smell of the mask. Guy said it was banana).

Had tubes many times when i was a kid, put me under everytime. being a curious kid i asked questions. They said they only put children under, normally it is just a local. The reason being is that it is very loud when they are doing it, like a train, and it scares children.
