Hello all. I been looking for days for a reasonable price on the new 90nm 3000+ and finally today Monarch cut it down to $150 for the 3000+ and $192 for the 3200+. I think this time im getting it.
This will be my first built from scratch so.. wish me luck :)

Also for a HSF what do u guys recommend... I would like something not noisy but that also does the job...
I plan to overclock maybe just to 2.4
I was looking at ThermalTake Silent Boost K8 for $30 at Newegg, which was also used on AT article with this processor... but if u have a better recommendation.. pls feel free.

Still looking and waiting for a better motherboard :
I read the new article from 3DExtreme for the Soltec board but based on VIA... not sure if that will be good enough for overclocking..
Any advice?

Yeah i saw the XP-90 paired with a Panaflo from Jpeton "System Byers guide" and that thing went to $54 including 3.5 grams of artic silver 5 and shipping.
I saw the fan used there had a 35 dBA noise... is that loud?

I wanted to get a Silent Boost K8 cz it was so quiet... only 21 dBA. Is the cooling difference between these two considerable?

I am very concerned about the noise... what do u recommend?

If no mobo really does it for you yet, I recommend waiting a few weeks to see what the mobo makers release in the way of PCIe chipsets before the holiday rush. The nForce4 has got a freaking amazing feature set, combined with good overclocking tools, and just about every mobo manufacturer is going to be releasing mobos based on that chipset. ATI's looks particularly good at overclocking and in performance, although the features are a bit sparse. Even VIA might have a contender if they can ever get their K8T890 Pro out the door (the K8T890 was "announced" 2 months ago, but is nowhere to be found). Anyways, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at your options in a few weeks.

As for heatsinks, I've heard decent things about Thermaltake - Especially the Venus 12, which is also $30 at newegg (i think it has more air moving power than the one you're looking at. I think that's what I'm gonna go with on my new nForce4 computer. Thermalright's XP-90 is better, but it's also more expensive, especially since you have to get the fan yourself. If you pair the Venus 12 with some arctic silver 5, I think you should have no problem hitting 2.4GHz (make sure you get good memory, Crucial Ballistix perhaps?).
