Getting an 8800GTX tomorrow -- but I have a AM2 4200+

I read a prior post asking about the 4600 and the 8800GTX, so I was wondering how much of a bottleneck the AM2 4200+ will be.

Is the 4200 going to severely handicap the 8800GTX? 🙁

At or below about 1280x1024...probably. If you game at high res then don't worry about it. However, even at low res...you'll still probably be at very high fps anyway so no need to worry about it. If you game at low res though buy a GTS instead of the GTX.

The whole bottleneck blabber pisses me off.

Unless you game @ <1280x1024 (& if so, wtf are you buying an 8800!?), you'll be more than fine 😀

Yes the 4200+ will be a slight bottleneck even up to 1600x1200, but as has been stated already the effects will be very minor above 1280x1024. I'm currently running an overclocked 5000+ @ 2.8ghz (I upgraded from an X1900XTX) & my performance has just about doubled in every game I play, so even though your cpu is slower then mine, if your current GPU is slower then my XTX was, you should see similar gains.
