getting access to old unused g-mail account

I have a friend who has not used their g-mail account for about 2 years.

They now want to start using the account again BUT their Outlook Express program will no longer bring in the email from the g-mail account. I think this is probably due to some erroneous settings (protocol) in the g-mail account setup or in the Outlook Express setup or both (this is why the g-mail account has not been used for this extended period of time). And instead of calling someone when this problem first occur they just let the problem languish.

Problem is that my friend has no idea as to what the password for the g-mail account is.

I/we have went thru the g-mail password "discovery" process on the g-mail website to no avail since my friend does not know the password, nor any of the other key questions that are posed regarding the dates that the account was last used or the date the account was originally setup.

Is there any way to discover what the correct password is to their g-mail account or are they just out of luck and going to have to just setup a new g-mail account from scratch ??? Is there a telephone number to call g-mail support about this problem ?

Thanks.

I do think that after a period of "no use" time they close the account.

If the account was/is closed, and you tried to discovery the password, wouldn't you get a message based on the user name that that account was closed, instead of a mesage saying that the pasword provided was not correct, which is what I/we are getting ?

Thanks.

May be that somebody else is now using that account name which is probably why you can not get a correct password.
I think you are just going to have to create a new account/name and password.

Gmail has no live or email support. Google essentially takes a "use at your own risk" approach for free Gmail accounts. That account is as gone as gone can be, sorry.

If your friend doesn't remember the password or the answers to the security questions, then he/she can't recover that email account.
