This is happening to a new dell 8300 dimension. Every once in a while I
get the blue error screen and I have to power off manually. But the more
frustrating thing is that, suddenly, the screen would go to black for a sec or
two, then the screen image reappears, goes to black, reappear, etc. And
when I try to go to another screen when it reappears, the image will distort,
or should I say, looks broken or superimposed garbage, and eventually freezes.
my system: winxp home, 1 gig crucial 2700 ram, 40 gig hdd.
Stop Error Screen:
stop: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xBF817E16, 0xEC9AB818, 0x00000000)
win32k.sys - address BF817E16 base at BF800000

Check BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.
When I check the MS site, it seems like a hotfix issue, but it seems that I am
having this problem whenever I install one of the 512 crucial ram sticks.
I used to have a dell 4550 and I encountered similar (not sure if same issue)
problems when I installed two 512 2700 sticks. A dell tech guy told me to
remove one stick as the 4550 could not 'handle' 1 gig. Really?....Well, after
removing the stick, it worked fine ever since.
Now I wonder if the ram stick is causing the problem? HOW CAN I CHECK TO
SEE IF A PARTICULAR RAM STICK IS AT FAULT? OR DOES 1 GIG CAUSE THIS
SORT OF PROBLEM? PLS HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
