I'm looking at this one..
http://www.essencompu.com/nupplysingar.asp?ID=3414 to use as a gaming rig. I love these things...they're cheap, small, inexpensive, and they look cool. Not to mention that they only have 1 pci slot, which is all I use anyways. I'm planning on throwing in my hsp56 micromodem and my eVGA Geforce 4 Ti 4800.
However, depending on where the prices are when I have the money I need for it, I might move up to the 2700 instead.
Btw, what temperatures do these things usually get? Anyone have experience with them?

Here is the premiere site for Shuttle XPC's. The SK41 has has come down in price as of late. I now only have two XPC's at home and no towers anymore. They can get warmer and are noisier but that can be fixed.

Head on over there.

I just built another one of these a couple days ago (I have a sb51g and ss51). Nice systems but they do get a little warm with stock cooling. It runs at aroung 55 C under full load. I'd recommend them to anyone.

Well heck, a game shouldn't push it past like 58 right? Im not really familiar with celsius, always measured in farenheit.

$556? Let's see:

Sk41G- $170 (after rebate)
Retail XP 2400+ - $110
60GB 7200 RPM hard drive, ATA 133- $85
Floppy- $10
265MB PC2100- $30
DVD ROM- $40

Total= $445

I mean, I know that they put it together and all, but...

Why figure in a retail CPU?

You would only have to throw out the heat sink and fan since the XPC has its own solution. Take off $15.00.

(I would go with the retail for the three year warranty but the warranty requires the use of the stock heat sink and fan.)

Well, I figured in a retail CPU because it was listed with the system that was linked to. I ordered the SK41G myself, and while some of the components I'll put in it are not quite as high-spec as the ones in that system, I think I'll come out pretty well. I bought the HD, CPU, CDRW and memory over the past few months of perusing the "Hot Deals" forum. Here's how it works out, approximately:

Shuttle SK41G (after rebate)- $170
Maxtor 40 GB 7200 hard drive (with rebate)- $30
Liteon 52X CDRW- $40 (only because I had to have a black one)
PNY 256MB PC2100 memory (with rebate & coupon)- $7
Athlon XP 1700+ OEM- $48
Nvidia Quadro4 200NVS video card- $25

Total= $320

...and I'm pretty much a novice at this computer bargain-hunting stuff. I'm sure they are plenty of people here who could do even better.

The XPCs use the ICE Heatpipe, do you don't need a retail CPU. I made the same error when specing out my XPC, which I will be ordering in a few weeks.
