HI

I need to sell something on ebay. I dont have a digital camera and dont want to purchase one just for this occasion. Is there anyway I can go to the manufacturer of my item i want to sell and download a picture and place it on ebay? Any other ideas?

thanks

zack

Sure, I do that all the time. You could even link directly to the picture on the mfr's site from your eBay listing.

Bad idea. Images are copyrighted and stealing them from the manufacturer's site may be against their terms. A complaint can be filed and ebay can and will remove your auction and even have you permanently suspended. In addition, linking to someone else's images can lead to disastrous results when the owner learns what's going on by reviewing the log files. I've seen the images replaced with hardcore porn, or something that screams "I am a crooked seller and will steal your money!" in its place.

No manufacturer is going to give you a problem for using an image from their web site in the pursuit of selling the same item and I don't see an ethical problem with that practice.
. I always host my own ebay pix (and 'borrowed' ones) as I can see where linking to pix on their site does use their bandwidth - though I doubt they would begrudge it. But it is a possibility and options are what sterling asked for...

Not true. Many companies are cracking down on use of their stock photography, especially now that ebay is so popular and known world-wide. A few years it was never a problem but that has all changed and will definitely increase. And it has nothing to do with an ethical problem, it's a legal matter. You cannot use their images in the pursuit of profit unless you obtain permission, or have an existing contract as an authorized reseller. Now with that said, go ahead and steal images, but don't cry about it when ebay sends you a notification that your auction is cancelled and any further attempts will result in permanent suspension.
