Ok ive been to my best computer store and ive talked to them about a new pc (no im not the guy that can deal with the problems of a new pc that you order peace by piece. I like plug and play much better for 33$ (can). Heres the system they recommended to me:

-p3 800mhz 133fsb (arghh! Why not Athlon you say? They said i dont know enough about comps to have one!!! 😱(tech guy said he had lots of problems but fixed it himself. God, i wish id be like you comps geniuses!!!)
-tyan 440 trinity (whats the diff between 400 and 440?)
-256 pc-133 ram (Seems good)
-30gig ibm 75gxp (Read its the best yet)
-v5 5500agp (OK I know the geforce has better performance but he told me dissable something like "shadow screen" in bios and it would raise performance up to a gf2 gts. I also heard the new drivers really increase perf. alot.)
-sb live value (Seems ok)
-alteclansing acs-54 gaming speaker kit 1 sub and 4 sats (Omg! I hope this sound rages threw my body!)

Ok now i think thats ok but do you geniuses have anything better to suggest? Why?

Looks pretty good, although, I'd probably say a different motherboard, such as an Asus CUSL2 or MSI 815E Pro. Also, understand that even though you may lack the knowledge today, you will never be able to overclock that CPU...at least to any appreciable level. You may want to opt out for a 700E cC0 stepping, if you can find one and overclock it later to 933 or 1GHz. Otherwise, consider this your learning rig and be prepared to upgrade soon. 🙂

Well if it were just for me id start o/c cpus but that takes out the warranty and my dad said it was a no-no. (No wonder i cant reach the knowledge where i could make my own comp,i cant experiment!!!) Well he pays so I dont mind LMAO!

Dont get the voodoo5. You may be able to get by with a geforce2 mx and upgrade later, or in my opinion you should get a geforce2. NVIDIA has the fastest cards and best drivers at teh cheapest price.

BTW: IF you are getting a 4 piece speaker system, make sure that you can plug the rear speakers into the rear channel of your sound card. I remember that altec lansing used to make some 4 piece speaker systems that were all run off the front channel. You won't get real surround sound unless you have speakers with two inputs, front and rear. If they don't, get the creative fps 1800's or something like that, cheap and sound pretty good.

i'd say your setup looks good. but if the salesguy you spoke with said that tyan has a trinity "440" board, (somehow i may be wrong) then it must be so new they don't even list it on their site, or that salesguy is blow'in smoke up yur***....🙂twks2

OMG. Please tell me he didn't say that with a straight face. *sigh* I expect such ignorance from the sales guys a Fry's or CompUSA, but usually the local guys know their stuff.

Based on his statement about AMD I wouldn't trust him too much. Please do not rule out an AMD based system because you will get a system with a faster processor for less money than an Intel system.

For an intel system, the one you descibed is not bad at all. I have never heard of the Tyan mobo he is reffering to however. Better off with an MSI or Asus mobo.

V5 is not bad, its performance is up there with the GF2. It still is not quite as fast, but with the new drivers and some tweaks it can get near. Also nice if you play flight sims or racing games since the FSAA can look quite good.

Besides considering another local place that doesn't have its head up its ass when it comes to AMD, it is a decent system. Like I said though, check out an AMD system - You will pay less almost guaranteed.
