thinking about retiring my 256gb for a 512gb ssd.. any thoughts on a good one under 300 bucks? havent heard alot of good things about samsung lately. also will i need a new windows 8 key or will i be able to reinstall and be ok? thanks

I just got a Crucial M550 512GB for my game rig... I like it a lot. Right now Crucial is pretty hard to beat in the $/GB department... any of the current incarnations: MX100, BX100, M500/550.

Reinstalling won't be a problem.

corsair any good? frys has a force gs 480gb for 269

It's a shame that fry's doesn't carry crucial
Out of what they offer it seems that samsung or toshiba Q series are the best choices imo.
Although you can buy either of those like $40 cheaper online.

You can clone the old SSD to the new SSD using various software (which might be supplied from the manufacturer depending on what you buy).

Another option you have is to stay with your current SSD and buy a 1TB or 2TB mechanical disk for the same price (don't know the prices in your area). It depends what you are using it for.

newegg has the mx100 in a 500gb form for 203 right now. i also see they have the 850 evo for 45 more is it worth it to go with the evo for the 45 dollar difference?
