Getting a new modem for Comcast.

OverVolt

Lifer
Well i have this modem that will drop a connection every hour or so, and its very frustrating. Also, my speed has dropped from 500kb/s+ to <100kb/s. It's about time to get a new cable modem and tell comcast to eat their $5/mo.

Anyway just need to know what i should be looking for in a cable modem. From what i hear the Motorolla surf boards are very good, and newegg has one for around $70. Thoughts?

DOCSIS? i don't know much about cable modems, i know how it works, but what is that?

get the 5100 series motorola surfboard, i got mine at walmart for 65.00 last year, then you call comcast up and give them the unit number on the bottom, dont install any of the crap that comes with the modem...its not needed.....i was up and running better within 15 minutes.....
