Getting a new laptop from dell

Good thing is I got a nice legit $5 version of windows XP Pro I bought at the bookstore (a university contract thingy 😉 )

So got an insane deal on a killer Inspiron 6000 w/ the $750 coupon.

Should I just wipe the sucker clean out of the box and put on XP Pro and go from there, or can I just do a upgrade type thing when I put in the Pro CD.

I imagine a clean sweep is desireable, but the thing hasn't even been used yet so I don't know.

Do a fresh install.

fresh install, use partition magic to re partition it to

Avoid partition Magic, use the XP Pro disc to partition it if possible. If for some reason it won't, use Linux and cfdisk or fdisk.

XP home if ok if you are not planning to connect to a lan.

I would wipe it. Get all the Dell software/spam off of there.

I would wipe it when I got it anyway - Home or PRO.

I hate those OEM builds... too much junk
