Okay folks, I'm getting a new Seagate 200GB 8MB drive from NewEgg next week. The clincher was the 5 year warranty, and excellent reviews. Of course it helps that I have to delete massive amounts of stuff at the end of each month to free up room..........Anyway......

Okay I got the IDE drive, but I have 4 IDE devices now. 2 HD's and a DVD-Rom and CDR/W drive on my ABIT IC7 Motherboard. I didn't get the SATA version of the drive, as there really is no performance benefit to going with SATA right now.

So how can I transfer all the data on my 2nd HD (which has all my backups and videos) to the new Seagate Drive? I was thinking maybe remove the CD-RW drive, but I'm embarrassed to admit I forgot if you can have 3 physical HD's on your Two IDE Channels??

Comments/Advice welcome.

Thanks guys:thumbsup:

You can have up to 4 IDE HDs on a mobo with 2 IDE channels. You need to set the jumpers on the back to "slave" on one HD and "master" on the other. The master HD will boot first on IDE 0, so make your OS HD master. You can usually find the jumper pin config for the drive on the drive itself... or you may have to look online. That's why IDE cables have 2 inputs (one on each end and one in the middle).

You can always remove your CD-Rom too. I do that sometimer when I need more headers.

Hmmmm, I thought XP would only recognize 2 Physical HD's...?? And what about the 137GB barrier. What do I have to do to allow XP to properly see the HD?.

Thanks all!
