Getting a new Dell Latitude Laptop

The latitude I will be getting will be decked out. Core 2 duo process, 2 gigs of ram, and a nvidia quadro video card. I am concerned about compatibility with current software.
If you were me, which OS would you get with it?

Vista, the only compatibility issue I've noticed with it is STALKER and that's a buggy pos game.

My friend just returned a Dell XPS laptop because it got Vista and had all sort of problems even the bundle softwares were have compatible issues.

If it's free, I'd take Vista over XP, though I'll have XP MCE in my house for a long while until cable cards come for self-install and I can get cheap media extenders, oh, and digital cable is the same price as what I have now.

don't know why you'd get xp, it's last gen and support will fade from ms and hardware manufacturers (ie, peripherals). vista may have issues, but it's the future, give it a service pack or two and the issues will go away, while the benefits will shine.

Might as well get Vista since the laptop can support it with no problem. Unless you have specific software that won't work... But you can always run things in XP Compatibility mode...
