Hello all, I am thinking of getting a new card, budget is $200 Canadian. I've currently got a Radeon LE 32MB DDR(clocked at 200/200). As i can see it my options are either a Geforce 2 Pro or a Geforce 2 Ti. Whats the differnce between the 2? which is better?

From what I've seen lately, There isn't much difference.

Based on the same chip. GF 2 Ti is the Pro chipset. The core clockspeed and RAMDAC is a little higher. Many
of the Ti's come w/64mb too.

Performance wise, most benchmarks have the Ti ahead, but not by much.

Moral to the story: get which ever on you can get cheaper. As I looked recently (just got a Ti - happy with
it), the prices were almost even, so I went w/ the Ti. You could always go with the GTS too. That's a little
slower, but cheaper. Could save you some bucks.

I know this doesn't help, but you might also consider the Radeon 7500. They can be had for just a touch
more than the GF2 Ti. People say they like ATi's 2D better, image better, yadda, yadda. You have a Radeon
now, so maybe you like them.

IMHO, I like the GF 2 Ti.

I like the GF Ti200, but all the stores here in Alberta have them for ~$300. I just upgraded some parts, and I'm waiting for the GF4 release in early February to drop the prices on the video cards at the end of February...

Hold off a couple months and see how the release of GF4 and pressure
from ATI effect Nvidia's pricing. There could be some great prices on the R8500 and ti200/500 line in the wake of the bleeding edge offerings from those two companies.

Since the GF2 Ti is on a .15 micron process, you would be able to overclock it farther. Another option you may want to consider is an ATi Radeon 7500 (or a Gigabyte Radeon 7500...).

I will not get another Radeon, I mean since i got my Radeon almost a year ago i've been getting screwed for drivers, the win2k performance has sucked compared to win98, my LE at 200/200 is slower in win2k than my buddys LE in win 98 at default speeds. I will never again buy ATI, they do not give a crap about the user after they buy the card, i guess the figure they got their money so why bother. My next card will be a Nvidia for sure. BTW how much better is a Geforce 2 Ti than my current card?

Much, much better (well, the 3D, anyhow). ATi also has a tendency only to support newer cards....the 8500 and 7500 have some fine drivers now (I'm running a 7500 on one machine with Win2k, it's great). Unless you really want good 2D and extra features, you can't go wrong with nVidia (other than the Personal Cinema).

EDIT: This is pure speculation, but seeing as how ATi is no longer the sole manufacturer of Radeon cards, I would expect their driver support to improve even more than it already is, as ATi will now need to offer more.

People will believe what they want to believe.
The Savage 2000 is still in production. New drivers are out of the question and the old ones were infamous. What does that say about foundations for optimism? ATI promised many months ago concentration of effort on drivers but the 8500 shows the same old problem.
Rifter and I have learnt from experience.

Note: Savage 2000 was Diamond/ S3 and is still being produced by Supergrace. Ironically, Supergrace claim they are the only manufacturer to use ATI's factories.
