Getting a new car, can't get it down the sloped garage.

Hey guys,

Right now my dad is looking to pick up a new car, either an M6, DB9, or an SL55.

We have a rather large problem.

Our garage is underground, and goes from the street to our garage at roughly a 40 degree angle, my non lowered RSX comes within 1 inch of scratching its front lip, most certainly those cars will.

I know that you can get suspensions that ill increase and decrease the ride height of the car, but I have no idea how practical these things are.

Any ideas?

pics!

From the street

From the garage, better angle.

There's an easy answer. Store it at my place.

Personally, I'm not sure I'd buy a high budget sports car to chop up the suspension. A good deal of the money you're paying is to get that suspension, and after you're done modifying it, it will never be the same.

Porsche 911 Turbo FTW.

If your suggesting that as a car that would fit, no.

If you're suggesting that over the other cars? No, my dad isn't a porsche guy, though they'd be cheaper.

True, I was hoping to find readjustable coilovers or something, because with the garage as it is we more or less can't fit anything down there.

Is there any way to change the slope of the driveway? It may actually be cheaper than trying to do a high budget suspension modification.

No, there is no way, the foundation has settled along where the tire lines are, so it's actually gotten alot worse.

Given the distance to the road and the vertical displacement, short of getting an elevator, nothing is happening in terms of changing the driveway.

In some cases, just backing the car into the driveway & garage instead of
driving in head first will not hit the driveway.

I'll assume the area of concern is where the ramp or whatever meets the garage floor. Simplest solution is to get a steel plate or two and use them to decrease that angle. You can just bolt them to the floor but you may want to place something(a board or bricks) under the middle of them so they don't sag over time.

Picture example

If the issue as at the top, at the road then I dunno a quick fix for it.

Sounds like it's time to move...

Nope, this house was designed by my grandfather who passed on to the netherworld about two years ago, so the house is staying around.

Why don't you show us pics of how you enter and how it looks?

The closest thing ti a picture I have right now is this, the entrance to the garage is on the right side of the picture.

dear god. WTF are we to do with that?

Take a picture of the slope if you want help.

You've gone ahead and measured the underside of these cars and determined they will not fit, right? If not, do that first. Maybe on one of the three there is no problem.

Otherwise, your options:

Skip the car altogether.
Park outside.
Change the grade into the garage.
Drastically modify the suspension for the purpose of getting the car into the garage.

Coilovers are adjustable, but generally not in the way you think they are -- you have to do some disassembly and lift the car up to change the ride height on most. Hydraulics are an option, but then you've gone and replaced the suspension on a car from one made to handle well to one made to get in the garage. It seems like a huge waste to do that on any of those particular cars.

If you want one of those cars to ride up high, get one that already does. The cars you've named are sports cars, and they're designed low to the ground for a reason. I mean, if your dad can afford one of those cars, he can afford to have someone come out and assess how much the grade into the garage can be changed. I'd start there and explore that option first.

Please, shut the hell up. I will get something better, but since I am not at home right now thats the best I've got.
