Getting a new boat!

Our current boat is too small for a family of 4, and we like to go camping/fishing a lot. So, my wife and I went shopping last night and found a boat we both really liked. this boat Ours isn't brand new - it's a couple of years old. We got a really good deal on it. I'm counting down the days til summer vacation!

So, let's see... Now I've got a 14ft boat for fishing, this boat, an 18 foot canoe, 4 kayaks, and a 4 man raft. Now all I need is a whitewater kayak.

Looks like a decent boat in the sf configuration. I've been looking for a ski fish combo type for awhile. Right now I'm undecided on which configuration to get as far as like a bowrider type or a bass boat style. In the bowrider configuration, I'd probably go with the Four Winns 183 F&S model.. I like the layout of that one the best of all the different makes out there. In the bass boat style, I'd go with the Stratos 486SF model or the Triton SF-188. Family wise, the bow rider would be better, but the bass type would be more fishing geared. If I had the money, I'd go with the Triumph 191 FS, but $30k+ is alittle to much. I like the way the back seat on the triumph folds forward.

That's pretty sweet, but I really prefer the pocket cruisers. I specifically like the ones betwen 25 and 26 feet because thats usually the largest size you can get berthed in a hi-and-dry which saves you a lot on bottom painting costs.

My family has always had 245 SeaRay Sundancers, but today I was looking at Bayliners and I think now that this value is unbeatable, even if Bayliner used to be the crappiest boat on the water. Mercruisers and Mercury's replace the pre-Honda force engines and apparantly aircon is now standard on all pocket cruisers 😱

Yeah, I'm definitley getting that.

You can get atleast a 15 year loan on boats, that'd bring the costs down alittle.

I think my boat has been a great investment. I bought it about 4 years ago and have had minimal maintenance to do on it. It's shredded 2 alternator belts and that's it....I'm supposed to get a replacement belt in this week, so I should be on the lake this weekend for the first time of the season. I can't wait to get out there and cruise around.

That looks like a good boat. The best thing about a boat that size is the gas milage. I love that my boat has a 3.0 Liter 4 cylinder. It will do 40mph, but I can run it a lot slower and make that tank stretch out over 2-3 weekends.

My wife and I have a 19 foot Bayliner Capri. It is a 1996 model, but only had about 80 hours on it when we bought it two years ago. Honestly, it isn't the prettiest thing on the lake, but it is big and comfortable and we aren't all jammed in on top of each other. Like Scarpozzi's boat, it has the 3.0 liter Mercruiser, and we can get about two weekends of fun out of one tank.
So far, I haven't even had to take it to the marina for any repairs. I've done everything myself and the costs have been negligible. We love the water!

I don't have a Mercruiser....it's an OMC Cobra.... 😛 Pain in the arse to find parts for it.... 🙂 I'm tempted to sell my boat this year to pay off some short-term debt and maybe get a nicer one down the road.

You'll have a blast, I'm sure. We've (bought it with my Dad) got a Ski Nautique and I just got a high pole for it so wakeboarding will be a lot more fun than with the standard ski pole.

In 10 or 15 years and probably used for 15% of that cost. Boats depreciate faster than domestic automobiles. I won't be able to afford a boat anytime in the immediate future anyway. I just bought a house. Oh, and I ditched the GF. Traded up for one that was 600 SAT points higher :beer:
