Getting a little too caught up in your work.

Ever have one of those days where you get so caught up in your work that time seems to just pass you buy at warp speed? I had that happen to me the other day. Was coding a program and ended up totally loosing track of time. Buddy of mine came by my desk and said to me "Hey man, you gonna go home sometime today?" I peaked up from my work and I said "Yeah, at 5pm." He said, "Dude, that was hours ago." I was like "Huh?" Then when I looked at the clock I noticed it was almost midnight. Last time I had checked the clock it was 1pm. I worked for 11 hours straight and never once stopped, looked up from my work or anything. In fact the online radio station I was listening to had already gone off the air and I never even noticed! In fact, the next day I heard that several things had gone on in the office right next to my desk and I never even heard them. 🙂

Have you ever had days like that?

Admit it; you pop pills at work. There's no way you could "lose 7 hours", and not realize it, buddy! 🙂

But hey, I am KING of "You do what 'ya gotta do to pay the bills" money comes first, at all costs. At least you are dedicated to your job. More than can be said for at least 50% of the working populace here in the US.

I have a habit of getting hyper focused on some things, and having issues concentrating on others. I guess it would depend on the situation.

My worst episode with that was a 36 hour run during college. Thing is, to this day I can't remember what all I was doing during that time. Probubly coding. That's when it happens to me the most. The funny part was starting on Monday morning, and finally getting out of my chair 36 hours later on Tuesday night. The part that was even funnier was when I realized that I had actually been working that long without a break or a stop. 😀

My friends thought I had gone out of state because I didn't answer the phone, the door, nothing. There could have been a shooting on our street and I would never have known. 🙂

That's a common problem when programming, for some reason. You get so entranced you can't believe how much time has gone by. I tend to drink a lot of Pepsi, so my kidneys tend to give me a wake-up call after about four hours.

Not really. Although I do play a whicked game of Unreal. 😀

I was planning on worknig a half day today, but before I knew it, it was 5:00... dammit, I really need to do stuff at places that are only open during working hours. I'm going to work at noon tomorrow.

hehe. Yeah, I have that problem too. 🙂 I keep forgetting to go and get my work done like I should during normal business hours. hehe.

I don't think it's so much a case of modivation as it is just getting sucked into a particular problem and looking for a way to solve it. I've had that issue numerous times where even if I didn't like the work, I latched onto a problem and worked hard to solve it. I like problem solving, even if I don't like the work itself as a whole. I think it's fun and I enjoy the challenge. 🙂

Now if I could only figure out how to fix the problem of my boss denying my raise for the 40th time.....(cheap jerk)......hmm. I wonder what he'd think of that beamer of his in a bright fluorecent pink. 😀

LordRaiden I wish I had your problem. Mine is the opposite. I have trouble concentrating on what I'm supposed to be working on. There just always seems to be some distraction, something else to think about.
