getting a laptop with an AMD processor, what about video card?

I am going to be getting a laptop within a couple of months. Most likely, I will be getting a Sony with an athlon 4 in it. But, if at all possible, I would like to get one that also has either a Geforce Go or ATI Radeon mobility chip in it. So far, I have not been able to find one with and AMD proccessor and good graphics.

Does anyone know of an AMD powered notebook with a newer graphics chip, or am I just dreaming? When can I expec to see something like that on the market?

I'm not really planning on playing games, but I would like to have some 3D support for the likes of AutoCAD and other 3D software, and am willing to pay quite a bit more for it too.

Sadly, I haven't seen any laptop companies offer an AMD based laptop with any high end video cards. You best bet for a powerful laptop would be a Dell 8100 or 8200. Right now, there isn't a lot of companies that are offering AMD in their high end laptops.

dell is not an option for me.......I don't do bussiness with them, although I will give them some credit for puting out laptops with great 3D stuff.

I'm just trying to find something, anything with an AMD processor that has either a mobile radeon, or a geforce go, it doesn't even have to be high-end, just something. But if I can't find it, then no big deal.

Why is it that you need an AMD processor? They run hotter than the P3 and P4-Ms, and consume much more power. I'd reccomend an Intel chip, at least in a laptop, unless you want to have a lap warmer that lasts about 1:30 on batteries.

could you provide me with some info to back that up with? I know that mobile AMD processors have better power management. That doesn't mean they consume less power, but I know they manage it a lot better. Don't forget we are talking about mobile AMD processors here. There were a few laptops with non-mobile durons releasedd that probably had poor battery life and whatnot.

I am looking at some inter powered laptops - but would still strongly prefer one with an AMD processor.

Buy an extra battery (or two) with that AMD processor.

My friend has a mobile Athlon and can't finish a single DVD on battery power. My Dell (PIII-M) gets better than twice the DVD playing time than his.

You want "proof" - read the reviews online.

I was talking about the mobile processor...however, all of this is in my experience. Google has let me down, and in my quick search, I coulden't find very much in the way of benchmarks. I'd look more...but I really have to finish this research paper Personaly, I wouldn't go with AMD in a laptop right now (The new P3-M, not the old Mobile P3 is a very, very nice chip..runs cool, very fast).

The mobile Athlons do run at a higher voltage than the P3's (and probably the p4 as well), even at their lowest speed ( 300mhz at 1.2v for a athlon 4 1ghz opposed to 733mhz at 1.15v for a 1ghz p3-M), meaning they generaly produce more heat. However, It's been a little while since I've looked at the Mobile P4's and Athlon's (Bought my laptop november 2001), so things probably have changed since then.
