Getting a Lappy $1000 Range - R51 a good choice?

I am going to make this short and sweet. I need a laptop for school for some multimedia editing, but mostly programming and word processing. I heard the r51 is a pretty fast lappy, just wanted to know if the consensus around here is the same.

Good choice, but you are going to have to pay a couple hundred more for a decent one.

Damn, then it looks like the R51 is out of the question for now. Any suggestions?

Look for the slightly older R-50 and see what they are pricing at.

You can get an R51 on NewEgg for around $1054 for a celeron-M @ 1.3ghz or a pentium-M @ 1.5ghz for $1199....pretty awesome deals on good quality IBM machines...

see if your school has an educational purchase program. Mine does, R51 starts at $999

also make friends with someone who works at IBM. There employee purchase program has thinkpads R51s starting at $700
