I've got a KG7 on the way. I know it's a PC1600/2100 board, but would it be worth it to spring for some PC2700 or higher? I'm planning on overclocking.
Depends if you're going to play with FSB OCing--Abit always provides more leeway than is good for you in that regard <g> . Otherwise look for some good ol' 2100 CAS2 ECC and be happy!

OK, got the mobo and the manual. Best is a 4:1 bus/cpu ratio, giving me 41.5MHz@166MHz bus, I can prolly do that. So, what, PC2700 ram? PC3000? Opinions please, need to buy the RAM!
I run Samsung PC2700 in my KG7-R @ 166/aggressive memory timings. I had it as high as 170, but corrupted the HD. The KG7-R is still one of my favorite boards, along with the 8K5A2+ and MSI K7D Master. To answer your question.. Yes, I would go for some PC2700 to get the most out of the ABIT. I do suggest removing the Northbridge HSF and applying Arctic Silver.
Yup, PC2700, CAS2, ECC. I'm an ECC nut and the KG7 supports it. You can turn ECC off in the BIOS when you need the extra speed and turn it back on for the added security. Actually if you intend to use the software RAID-0, I would leave ECC on all the time. RAID0 seems to crash enough without having a memory fart add to the problem.
