Ok it's the summer and I need to get a job to keep me from dying from boredom and to hook me up with some gas money. This is my plan:

Walk into CompUSA, ask questions, prove the sales person wrong, have them offer me a job, and accept it :D.

here's my resume, tell me if it's ok (I had to do some mass revising to fit it on one page).

Anyone can prove a CompUSA sales person wrong ;)

And you are overqualified. They just want people who can sell, even if you don't know anything about computers (99% of the CompUSA staff)

People I just need money, and I know i'm overqualified. I don't know what other kind of job I can get though. My old job as the web developer I lucked out because my dad was able to hook me up and this guy gave me a shot. My chances of something like that happening again are very slim, and no real place like that wants to higher a 17 year old punkass.

I'm sure you can get a job as a webmaster at least... i see ads in my local papers all the time for webmasters and computer tutors for the local libraries all the time.

But you'll probably make more money at CompUSA. Give it a shot, you'll probably get the job.

Just remember that unless you're applying as a tech, you are a SALESPERSON first and a geek second. I forgot that when I once applied to Best Buy.

Since when do these places just offer you a job right away like that? They wont give two flying fu<ks if you prove the salesperson wrong. Do you think that if you show you know more than that person that they'll just bow down and offer you a job? HAHAHAHAAHA. CompUSA is retail. They want people to work long hours selling crap and pay you the least they legally can. Then they'll cut your hours and wont care when you start to whine. Do yourself a favor and run far away from that place and any other retail store you're considering working for. Go try to find a job at a small computer shop. You might get bad pay but your knowledge will be put to better use.

Yeah being a salesperson will royally suck. I'd like to apply for a behind the scenes type job there. I think i'll also look at babbages, that might be pretty cool.

I am a recruiter by profession. For a position at this level, you do not need a resume. You will be filling out an application. I would recommend A+ and Network+ certification. Classes are nice but mean jack! Certification, while also relatively insignificant, at least demonstrates a level of competence. Don't walk in and try to be a wiseass; the person you demean will be a coworker if you get the job. Go in dressed well (read business casual). Go through their hiring process, be respectful, get the job. Use this as a means to grow and take advantage of the educational opportunities that they offer (classes and certification training). Best of luck!

Yeah, thanks.

But I found out I have a chance to get a job at www.myfamily.com, (not knowing what i'll be doing though).

I'm also in the process of making a webpage as a kind of online-resume. So they could go to my site and check out everything that i'm capable of. Graphics, Flash, everything in general. How would that go over?

They will only look at a website after they have gotten serious about bringing you on board. Web-based resumes really aggravate people that do the hiring. They are only useful as a means to get contract work. IMPO
